Our first priority is your safety. Our advocates can work with you to create a safety plan that includes ways to be safe while in your situation, as you are planning to leave, or after you leave. There are many things to consider when safety planning, including where to find shelter or safe housing, how to cope with your emotions, what other supportive services are available to you, and more. Each person’s safety plan is going to be different.

Minnesota’s Day One Crisis Line provides support to individuals experiencing trafficking, exploitation, and other harms:

Safe Harbor Regional Navigators serve as regional points of contact and can help connect sexually exploited youth up to age 24 to safe housing and services.

Outside Minnesota:

If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline toll-free hotline, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-888-373-7888 to speak with a specially trained Anti-Trafficking Hotline Advocate. Support is provided in more than 200 languages.

When Domestic Abuse Overlaps with Sex Trafficking

Depending on your relationship with your trafficker or pimp, you may also be eligible to access domestic violence resources in the state.

In Minnesota, “domestic abuse” is when the following acts are committed by a family or household member:

physical harm, bodily injury, or assault;
the infliction of fear of imminent physical harm, bodily injury, or assault;
terroristic threats (within the meaning of 609.713, subdivision 1);
sexual violence (within the meaning of 609.342, 609.343, 609.344, 609.345, or 609.3451);
sexual extortion (within the meaning of section 609.3458); or
interference with an emergency call (within the meaning of section 609.78, subdivision 2)

“Family or household member” means:

spouses and former spouses;
parents and children;
persons related by blood;
persons who are presently residing together or who have resided together in the past;
persons who have a child in common regardless of whether they have been married or have lived together at any time;
a man and woman if the woman is pregnant and the man is alleged to be the father, regardless of whether they have been married or have lived together at any time; and
persons involved in a significant romantic or sexual relationship.
