Prevention

Prevention is more than just education. Everyone has a role to play in preventing sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. Preventing these harms requires action across multiple levels: Individual, Relationship, Community, and Societal.

The Social-Ecological Model

At the individual level, we work to promote attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that prevent violence. At the relationship level, we recognize that a person’s closest social circle (peers, partners, and family members) influences positive behavior and choices. At the community level, we work together to improve the physical environment (e.g., by creating safe places where people live, learn, work, and play) and create a culture of safety, mutual respect, and care for others. And at the societal level, we work to change and improve polices to better promote safety and health and protect against violence.
